Hiroyuki Kitagawa, Dr. Sc.

Profile

Hiroyuki Kitagawa received the B.Sc. degree in physics and the M.Sc. and Dr.Sc. degrees in computer science, all from the University of Tokyo, in 1978, 1980, and 1987, respectively. He joined Institute of Information Sciences and Electronics, University of Tsukuba, in 1988. He is currently a full professor at Center for Computational Sciences, University of Tsukuba. His research interests include databases, data integration, stream processing, data mining, social media mining, information retrieval, and scientific databases. He is an IEICE Fellow, an IPSJ Fellow, and an Associate Member of the Science Council of Japan. Before joining University of Tsukuba, he was a research staff member in NEC Corporation, Tokyo. He was a visiting scholar of University of Maryland from 1984 to 1985, and of Carnegie Mellon University from 2001 to 2002. He served as Provost of Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Tsukuba from April 2015 to March 2018, President of the Database Society of Japan from May 2014 to May 2016, Chairperson of the IEICE Special Interest Group on Data Engineering from May 1999 to May 2001, Chairperson of ACM SIGMOD Japan Chapter from June 2003 to June 2007. He is a member of ACM, IEEE, and JSSST.
